Abstract

In developing countries like Ethiopia, Pumping water for domestic use, livestock drinking and farming activities is becoming common practice particularly in water deficit arid and semi-arid areas. However, diesel based water pumping motors, which predominantly adopted so far, were identified to have limitation in improving communities life due to its’ unreliability and high diesel cost, and at the same times contributing to environmental pollution by emitting greenhouse gas. While the government and development partners were exerting significant efforts to convert the diesel engines with solar pumping technologies.

Abstract

The clean energy source for domestic consumption has been increasing globally. Ethiopia is in the equator experiences enough solar energy which provides an excellent opportunity for solar energy utilization. Despite the huge potential of solar energy in the study area, adoption of the technology is limited by different factors. Hence, the purpose of the present investigation was to explore the household energy use pattern in the study area and determine the factors that affect the adoption of solar energy technologies for domestic usage at the household level. Random sampling techniques were employed to identify the sample households for data collection using semi-structured questionnaires.

Abstract

Biomass fuels remain the highest in Ethiopia with 99 percent of the rural households highly depending on fuel wood as their main source of energy. Increased focus on the Improved Cookstoves (ICS) adoption by the various international organizations such as Global Alliance for Clean Cook stoves GACC) due to their potential benefit to household health, local and regional climate.

Abstract

Many Ethiopians live below the poverty line especially Households in the rural area Because of that used the most extreme traditional energy use for cooking, lighting and heating. In most parts of the country in Ethiopia use kerosene and firewood for lighting.

Abstract

Renewable energy like biogas technology is a significant requirement for human life. It deeply contributes to all aspects of human welfare such as cooking food, heat and light; health care and sanitation, education and job creation. In the study area, the community was with severe scarcity of fuelwood and associated problems. In the study area, forestland has been changed to other land uses like urbanization, industrialization, expansion of grazing and cultivation land causing high fuel wood scarcity.
