Trainings

 This training will provide the trainee with a general overview of climate change adaptation principles and its interaction among different sectors. Trainees will gain insight about basic preconditions of climate change adaptation implementation such as vulnerability assessment, consideration of gender, adaptive capacity, resource endowment and scales of vulnerability assessment. Trainees get insight on variation in vulnerability between different sectors such agriculture and food security, forestry and biodiversity, health sector, water resources and energy and urban settlement and infrastructure and possible adaptation strategies for each sector. They also get insight on the relationship between ecosystem services and adaptation strategies and the role of adaptation strategy on reliability and resilience of a given system. Furthermore, the trainees will understand on how to design sustainable climate change adaptation strategies for different sector by taking into account ecosystem services and different vulnerable groups at different scale, factors that determine adaptive capacity, synergies between climate change adaptation and mitigation. Finally, the trainees are expected to design context specific climate change adaptation options for different development sectors.  The training will use a delivery approaches of brief lecturing, student-based exercise, field visit and practical exercises with the aim to enhance trainee’s knowledge and skill on climate change adaptation. Emphasis will be given to climate change adaptation in developing countries, but the contexts of developed countries will be discussed as well.
