Abstract

Community-based Soil and Water Conservation (SWC) practices have been adopted in the Tigray region over the last four decades with the aim to rehabilitate the degraded lands. Nevertheless, studies addressing the types of SWC activities and its effects on soil fertility, crop yield improvement, socioeconomic role, soil erosion reduction and in general as climate smart agricultural practices were limited.

Abstract

Small scale irrigation is one of the most useful practice designed to increase production and productivity while reduces risk related with climate variability and improving livelihood of rural farm households indeed. So, the main objective of this paper is to investigate the contribution of Small-Scale Irrigation to improve livelihood and enhancing adaptive capacity to climate variability of smallholder farmers in the study area. In study area available irrigation potential but still know this practice poorly managed by smallholder farmers.

Abstract

Climate change is a serious threat to the livelihoods of rural communities, particularly in arid and semi-arid zone areas. In this study area carried out analysis of climate change trend, impacts on farmers and their adaptation strategies in kola Tenbeinworeda, Tigray region. Ethiopia. Rainfall and temperature data have been analyzed using coefficient of variation standardized Precipitation Index and furthermore, excel and Minitab software used to detect the time series trend.

Abstract

The impact of climate change in Ethiopia is already apparent in the increasing temperature and declining rainfall, particularly in northern parts which are exceptionally vulnerable to drought. Studies on climate change adaptation recognize the importance of agro-ecology based research for designing context-specific policies and programs to climate change.
